July 14, 1922 - Jan. 2, 2001

Evelyn M. Neff, 78, of Fir Lane in Walnut Grove, South Bend, IN., passed away on Tuesday evening, Jan. 2, in the Rush-Copley Hospital. Aurora, IL. She was born on July 14, 1922, in South Bend, to the late Anthony Schick and Myrtle L. (Johnson) Schick. On Jan. 1, 1949, she married Robert E. Neff, who also preceded her in death in 1998. She is survived by her son, Mark R. Neff, M.D., and spouse, Lee of Naperville, IL.; five grandchildren; a sister, Shirlee Broomall of Princeton, IL.; and by a brother, Ferris Schick of Hawthorne, CA.

Evelyn graduated from South Bend Central High School.

Her first position after high school was in New York Central. She worked for the Studebaker Credit Union, and retired from the First Source Bank (previously First Bank & Trust) where she worked in the proof department. She formerly belonged to Epworth United Methodist Church, and was until her death a longtime, loving member of the Evangel Heights United Methodist Church where she participated in many church circles and taught Sunday School over 20 years. She volunteered her time with many organizations including the Century Center and the Studebaker Museum in South Bend. She was an early, active member of the U.S.M.C. Auxiliary in South Bend. She was active in the BatteII Center and the AARP in Mishawaka, IN.

Services were held on Saturday, Jan. 6, in the Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, with Pastors Edward and Brenda Fritz officiating. Burial followed at Highland Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Neff may be made to the Evangel Heights United Methodist Church Youth Ministries. The Welsheimer Funeral Home. 521 N. William Street, is handling arrangements.
