SOUTH BEND - Lowell James Proud, 84, died Monday morning, November 19, in Hospice House. He was born December 3, 1922, in South Bend, to Keith E. and Mildred (Kinney) Proud, who preceded him in death, along with a sister, Shirley Leible.

On February 22, 1947, in South Bend, he married Bettylou Baber, who survives, along with a sister, Frances Saunders of Denver, CO.

Lowell graduated from South Bend Central High School and Indiana University.

He served in the US Army during World War II, attaining the rank of sergeant. He worked with his father in the business he started, Proud Movers, Inc. Lowell joined the banking business as a trust officer, working in Dayton, Chicago and South Bend, and ended his career as vice-president.

A Memorial service will be at noon Monday, November 26, in the HICKEY Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 17131 Cleveland Road (between Ironwood and Grape Roads). Interment will follow at Hamilton Cemetery, New Carlisle. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
