John C. Nelson

John C. Nelson. an educator who was active in church, civic and political organizations, died Saturday. Ile was 65 and lived in Lansdowne, Delaware County. Nelson worked for the Lower Merton School District for 27 years. He served as principal of the Cynwyd and Wynnewood Road elementary schools, and later taught fifth grade at Penn Valley Elementary School. He also had been a member of the Temple University summer faculty for three years. He was a board member and past president of the Delaware Valley Reading Association.

A former Democratic committeeman of the 2nd Precinct in Lansdowne, Nelson was a member and past president of the Union Athletic Association of Lansdowne, and was a member of the Neighbors Club of Lansdowne and Hamilton Masonic Lodge 274. Nelson was active in the Lansdowne United Methodist Church. where he was a past president of the board of trustees. He also was a former board member of the Lansdowne Public Library. During World War II, he served with the Army in the South Pacific with the 750th Field Artillery.

Nelson is survived by his wife, the. former Ruth Erisman, five daughters, Carolyn Sabroske. Claudia Pollack. Andrea Colgan. Judith and Leslie; two sons, John C. Jr. and James O, and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 1p.m. Saturday at Lansdowne United Methodist Church, 82 N. Lansdowne
Ave., Lansdowne. Contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund of the church.
