SOUTH BEND - Lois Mae (Myers) Spaulding, 87, passed away at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center at 12:20 am on Tuesday, November 24, 2009. She was born on April 1, 1922, in Jasonville, IN, in Greene County to the late Curtis and Mamie (Bender) Myers. Mom always told us that when she was born she was so small that the doctor put her in a bread pan and placed it on the opened oven door to keep her warm. As a child, she lived in several places in Indiana that included Jasonville, the Dayhoff Corner and Terre Haute, before coming to South Bend in the late 1930's.

On January 19, 1946, in South Bend, she married Leo Alfred Spaulding at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1986, along with their stillborn son, who died on December 31, 1946 and a sister Lucile Myers.

She is survived by three daughters, Linda Chism of South Bend, Lora Spaulding-Schirripa (Mark Schirripa) of Edwardsburg, MI and Lucille Spaulding of South Bend. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Jessica Chism and Amber Moss, both of South Bend and Gabriella Schirripa of Edwardsburg; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Moss-Stremme and Gavin Moss-Stephens.

Lois graduated from Central High School in 1940 and worked at Bendix during WWII and along with her husband Leo at Leo A. Spaulding, Public Accountant from 1966-1986. Mom, you have been our life. You and Dad raised three daughters and have taught and guided us through the years. She had an amazing life. Lois was a founding member and 1st President of the LaSalle Area Neighborhood Association and a parishioner and founding member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, South Bend.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 pm Friday, November 27, 2009, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 pm.
