Paul Norman McKinney - Class Of 1940 VIEW PROFILE

Paul Norman McKinney

Paul N. McKinney

Aug. 28, 1922 - July 6, 2011
SOUTH BEND - Paul N. McKinney was born on August 28, 1922, in South Bend, IN, and died there on July 6, 2011. In 1942, he married M. Jeanne Shank of South Bend before leaving to serve in World War II as a Quarter Master in the U.S. Navy. They had two children, Timothy and Karen. "Papa Paul," as he was affectionately known, was preceded in death by his wife, "Miss Jeanne"; his son, Timothy of Indianapolis; and his brother, H. Lewis McKinney of Elkhart, IN. Survivors include a daughter, Karen Maxam (Dale) Weaver of Edwardsburg, MI, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

During his 89 years, he had also been a resident of Indianapolis where he founded Indiana Duplicator Corporation in the early 1950s, Eagle Lake in Edwardsburg, MI, where he nurtured his hosta and dahlia gardens in retirement and Longboat Key, FL. He had been a member of the Elkhart Dahlia Society, and traveled as far as New Zealand in pursuit of his interest in dahlias. When in later years his gardening hobby became too burdensome, he donated hundreds of hosta plants for fundraising events at numerous local churches and charitable groups, particularly Mennonite Disabilities of Elkhart County. His jovial demeanor and sense of humor will be sorely missed by all, especially his friends at Tanglewood in Mishawaka, where he spent most of his last three years.

A memorial dinner will be held for family and friends at a later date. Welsheimer Family Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at www.welsheimer.com.
