GRANGER - Virginia M. Eckert, 91, residing in Granger, IN, passed away at 12:57 AM Wednesday, August 7, 2013. Virginia was born on June 19, 1922, in Mishawaka, IN, to Harry C. and Charlotte G. (Shreve) McIntyre. She grew up in River Park and attended Nuner Elementary School.

She graduated from Central High School in 1940.

Virginia was a Ticket Seller for the New York Central Railroad at Union Station in South Bend for several years prior to her marriage.

Virginia married Harold G. Eckert on June 14, 1949, and they lived in their Granger home where she resided until her death. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Grand Floridian Hotel in Orlando, FL, and their 60th wedding anniversary at Tippecanoe Place in South Bend, IN.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Harry C. and Charlotte G. McIntyre, and her husband, Harold G. Eckert, who passed away April 1, 2010.

She is survived by one son, Eric E. Eckert of Granger, and his daughters, Amy Eckert and Caroline (Charles Edward) Marks; one daughter, Emilie E. Blanco of Hudson, FL, and her daughters, Lorienn (Jeffrey B.) Carpenter and Cristienn (Youssef) Joudaane, and step-granddaughter, Teri Enna (Sven) Folmer; great-grandchildren, Lilienn Carpenter, Adam Joudaane, Jazlin and Garrett Gomez, & Charlotte and Claire Marks.

Virginia was a Christian and a longtime member of Harris Prairie Church of Christ in Granger, IN, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She loved working in her family's vegetable and flower gardens, canning, cooking and baking. She enjoyed summer camping trips with her family, and vacations to Florida to visit her daughter, grandchildren and extended family. In her later years she enjoyed researching the genealogy of her family. She had an incredible memory, a wonderful sense of humor, and she was loved by everyone who knew her. She left a legacy of traditions, family memories and love.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 10, 2013, at Palmer Funeral Home - River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN. Pastor Ed Erskin and Pastor Bob Wiley will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. Reverend Sandie Vanik will provide the scripture reading and a prayer; Pastor Ed Erskin will provide the closing remarks. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 - 8:00 PM today, August 9, 2013, at Palmer Funeral Home - River Park, and a half hour prior to service. Contributions in memory of Virginia M.
