Roosevelt Peter Jackson

Roosevelt P. Jackson

Dr. Roosevelt Peter Jackson was born May 8, 1920 in Sunflower County, Mississippi to the late Julia Bronson and Felix Jackson, Sr. He was one of six children, four of whom preceded him in death. Dr. Jackson, the father of five children one of whom preceded him in death, departed this life on February 24, 2009 at Dekalb Medical Center. Dr. Jackson and his family moved to South Bend, Indiana at an early age where he completed his primary and secondary education.

He was a graduate of Alabama State College where he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Gamma Sigma Chapter 1943. He did his internship at Meharry Medical School in Nashville, Tennessee and Homer G. Phillip Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was among the first Afro-Americans to practice in the Grady Hughes Spalding Health Care System. His care and concern for his multitude of patients was his life. His patients loved and admired him because of this. His medical skills and visions reached far beyond his years.

Doc never met a stranger. His love for people was extraordinary. His favorite greeting to the ladies was "Hello darling have you been kissed today?" To the men "How are you doing young man, are you making enough money?" All during his illness, the nurses could associate how he felt as to whether he was flirting or not. He enjoyed life to the fullest. There was only one of his kind.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his soul mate, Liz Alexander; two daughters, Pamela Jackson, Atlanta, Rolonda P. Alexander-Edun, Atlanta, his earthly angel; two sons, Reggie Jackson, Atlanta, Russell Jackson, Atlanta; seven grandchildren; one brother, Frank Jackson, Vallejo, California; one devoted son-in-law, Patrick E.
