IRENE KALKA

WARSAW - Irene E. Kalka, 87, of Warsaw, IN, formerly of South Bend, died at 9:00 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, in Kosciusko Community Hospital. She was born on March 21, 1921, to the late Andrew and Elva (Wright) Hutchison in Linton, IN, and had lived in South Bend most of her life before moving to Warsaw, IN, around 1997. Along with her parents, one brother, Norman Hutchison, and one stepson, Worth Haney, also preceded her in death.

Irene graduated in 1940 from Central High School in South Bend, IN.

In July 1949, as Irene E. Hutchison, she married Frank Kalka in Sault St. Marie, MI. She is survived by her husband, Frank Kalka of Warsaw, IN; a daughter, Deborah (Robert) Haney of Warsaw, IN; a son, Craig A. (Julie) Kalka of Warsaw, IN; two stepsons, Matthew and Francis Kalka, both of Edwardsburg, MI; five grandchildren, Andrew (Erin) Young of Warsaw, IN, Jamie Scott of Pierceton, IN, Debra Scott of Florida, Justin Kalka of Warsaw, IN, and Sara Kalka of Warsaw, IN; and four step-grandchildren, Tammi, Robin, Scott and Ronald.

Mrs. Kalka was a former member of St. Casimir Parish in South Bend, IN.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, May 12, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a vigil service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312; or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
