Gertrude E. (Hufford)  Andries

Gertrude E. Andries, 75, South Fellows Street, South Bend, IN., died after a brief illness at 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, in St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend. Gertrude was born on Dec. 12, 1922, in White County, Ind., to Clay and Estella (Herr) Hufford. She had spent most of her lifetime in South Bend. In 1948 Gertrude married Joseph A. Andries, who preceded her in death in 1963. Gertrude is survived by a daughter, Monica Dews of South Bend; five grandchildren, Amy J. Hix, Kevin P. Dews, Eric (Marina) Lute, Antonia M. Zarate and Christine Zarate, all of South Bend; two great-grandsons, Gage A. Hix and Tyler A. Hix, both of South Bend; and by a sister, Betty Fenters of Gulf Breeze, FL.

Gertrude retired from St. Matthews School after 20 years of teaching. She also worked part-time for Real Services.

Funeral services for Gertrude E. Andries will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 5, in the Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, where visitation hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday. Cremation will follow funeral services, with burial later in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Donations in memory of Gertrude E. Andries are requested to be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
