Hattie L Harris Nov. 8, 1921 - June 5. 1999 Hattie Louise (Howell) Harris, 77, passed away after a lengthy illness on Saturday, June 5, in Saint Joseph's Medical Cen-ter. She was born on Nov-ember 8, 1921, in Duluth, Ga , and moved to South Bend. Ind. at the early age of 2 years old. She was born to Lee and Lillie Howell, who preceded her in death. She was the wife of the late Oddies Harris for 53 years.

She was a member of First A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was treasurer of the Life Member Council. She was also a member of the Samaritan Club, Wabash Assembly 68 Order of Golden Circle. Mrs. Harris was the owner/operator of Harris Liquor Store for over 40 years.

She leaves to mourn her passing a son, James Harris (Ingrid): two daughters, Barbara Lawson and Pat Williams (Gilbert) of South Bend; a stepdaughter, Sandra Goldman (Williams) of Atlanta, Ga.; one foster child, Steven Griffin; one Godson, Adrian Griffin; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; five sisters, Bobbie L. Durrant (Jack). Mamie Taylor (Tom), Sylvia Warren. Joan Trammel (Lee). and Henritta Williams (Robert); and three brothers, William Howell (Catherine), Charles Howell (Elizabeth), and Henry Howell (Jane), and a brother, Rufus Howell who preceded her in death. She also leaves to mourn a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at First A.M.E. Zion Church, 801 Eddy. South Bend. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. until service time at the church. Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home will be handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to First A.M.E. Zion Church.
