Robert F "Bob" Hinz, 80. of Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an illness at 2:05 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, in Hospice House Bob was born Feb. 12, 1922, in South Bend, Ind., to the late Conrad and Gertrud (Steiner) Hinz Bob was married to the late Mary May Sommers from 1948 until her death in 1957. He is survived by two children from that union, Betty Lou (Bob) Hudson and Robert "Mike" Hinz, both of South Bend. In 1962 he married Gisela H. Seitz, who survives. He is survived by their daughter, Chris E. (Dan) Horning of South Bend. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Jennifer (Russ) Funkhouser and John R. Hudson: and by four great-grandchildren, Gianni, Isaiah and Braxton Hudson, and Kelsey Funkhouser. 

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Helen (George) Andrews; and brother, Conrad (Joan) Hinz. Bob proudly served his country in World War II in the South Pacific as a tech five in the Army Corps of Engineers. He was briefly employed by the Bendix Corporation, and then was employed at Troeger Sheet Metal as a sheet metal mechanic for 40 years until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of Sheetmetal Workers International Local #20 and American Turners. For the past 14 years Bob enjoyed spending part of the winter in Clearwater Beach, Fla., with his wife Gisela. He was an avid gardener, and will be remembered by many family members and friends for his excellent tomatoes and other produce. He will be missed very much by his family and friends. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 271h, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, with Rev. Dr. William J. Wassner of St. Peters United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, July 261h, in the funeral home.
