SOUTH BEND - Mary Louise Swantz, residing in South Bend, passed away at 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at Southfield Village at the age of 87. She was born June 23, 1922, in South Bend, IN, the daughter of Paul A. and Evelyn Louise (Dallmann) Heiermann, and was a graduate of Central High School.

On April 15, 1944, in South Bend, as Mary Louise Heiermann, she married the love of her life, John W. "Jack" Swantz. She is survived by her husband, Jack of 65 years. Also surviving are a daughter, Margaret L. Craig of Oregon, IL; a son, James Robert Swantz of South Bend; two granddaughters, Michelle Craig of Chicago, IL, and Kimberly Lynn (Mark) Myers of Earlville, IL; two great-granddaughters, Ashley Ann and Amanda Myers. Also surviving are two nieces, Sandy Villwock and Susan Tschida, both of South Bend; and a great-niece, Jennifer Matheu of Pennsylvania.

Mary was preceded in death by two brothers, William H. and Paul A. Heiermann.

After Mary and Jack were married, they lived in many different areas throughout Jack's professional life including Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. They returned to South Bend in 1992. Mary was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, member and Worthy Advisor of Rainbow Girls, Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #2, PSI IOTA XI where she served as State President in Indiana and Michigan. She was also a member of the President's Council at Purdue University and the Circles of Excellence at Memorial Hospital. Mary was a fun-loving person who had a wonderful smile. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to know her.

Services celebrating the life of Mary Louise Swantz will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2009, in St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 915 North Ironwood Drive, South Bend. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time Saturday in the church. Dr. William Wassner will officiate. Cremation will follow the services. Expressions of sympathy on behalf of Mrs. Swantz may be made to St. Peter's United Church of Christ. Or to the charity of the donor's choice.
