Sgt. Frank J. Grabarek

Sgt. Frank J. Grabarek. age 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley C Grabarek, 1714 Fassnacht Avenue died in action in Italy on Feb. 2 1944. according to word received by his parents from the war department. Sgt Grabarek had been reported missing  previously.

A mass will be chanted for the reposes of his soul by request of his friends at the 8:30 o'clock mass Monday in St. Stanislaus' Roman Catholic church of which he was a member. Another mass will b said at 9 o'clock July 10 by request of the parents. Rev. Anthony. J. Rozewicz, C. S. C., pastor, announced today that a special war bond collection will be taken up in the church at all the masses Sunday to purchase a bond for the parish in memory of Sgt. Grabarek.

Sgt. Grabarek was born here Oct 14. 1920 and graduated from Central High School in 1940. He had worked for the Studebaker corporation until his induction Oct. 9. 1943.

He completed his infantry training at Camp Wheeler. Ga., and was sent to North Africa in February. 1943. He was attached to the Seventh army at the Salerno beachhead and was later transferred to the Fifth army in Italy.

Surviving besides the parents are two brothers. John Grabarek. of South Bend. and Corp. George Al Grabarek. United States Army Air Corps. Lincoln, Neb., and four sisters, Mrs. Ben Oto!ski. Mrs. John Busse. Mrs. Glenn Freeburn and Miss Pearl Grabarek.
