Richmond, Ind - Doris F. Leventhal, 91, of Richmond, passed away suddenly on December 24, 2013 at Reid Memorial Hospital. Doris was born on April 20, 1922 in Akron, Ohio to the late Esther and Max Freedman.

Doris grew up in Cleveland and South Bend, Indiana. She continued her education at Purdue University, where she met her loving husband Harvey and studied Family and Consumer Sciences. She did not graduate, as she followed Harvey to San Diego when he was commissioned into the United States Navy in 1943, serving in World War II. After the war, they moved back to the Midwest, living in Michigan and Indiana, as well as living for a short time in Atlanta, Georgia.

Doris was a homemaker as well as being very accomplished in a variety of hobbies, which she practiced throughout her entire life, including needle arts, beading, knitting, gardening and flower arranging, bridge, and mahjong. She was an accredited Master Gardener and a flower show judge and a previous member of Petal and Stem Garden Club of Richmond. She was active in the R.O.S.E. chapter of the Embroiderer's Guild of America (EGA) and the Miami Valley Chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild (ANG). In 2009, she was honored for her needle arts accomplishments by being presented with The Gold Thread Award by the Great Lakes Region of EGA. She was also a member of the MCL Lunch and Bridge Club, and the Beth Boruk Temple.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harvey, who passed away in 1991.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Michael Leventhal and Elise Tanner; her daughter-in-law Linda Leventhal; her grandchildren Lisa Harris, Jennifer Tanner, and Geoffrey Tanner; her great-grand daughter Brandi Staggs; and great-great grand children Rickey and Justin.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Beth Boruk Temple at later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to Beth Boruk Temple, 2810 Southeast Parkway, Richmond, IN 47374.
