SOUTH BEND - Herman C. Damp, 84, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 4:20 p.m. Saturday, October 6, 2007, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. He was born on October 19, 1922, in South Bend, to George and Anna Damp.

On October 4, 1968, he married Inga S. Magnuson in Ridgedale Presbyterian Church, South Bend. Herman is survived by his wife of 39 years, Inga; a daughter, Pamela A. (Doug) Yoder of Elkhart, IN; a stepdaughter, Diane E. Parker of Elkhart, IN; two sons, Donald D. Damp of California and Chuck A. (Jill) Damp of Elkhart, IN; a stepson, Michael D. (Gail) McCord of Louis, OH; six grandchildren, Mark and Dawn Yoder, Liz Shepherd, Chad, Chris and Laura Damp; nine step-grandchildren, Amy Morton, Matthew Parker, Jennifer McCord, Kelly Hancock, Julie Frick, Jason and Dale DeFerbrache, Sarah and Diana Matteson; two step-great-grandchildren, Parker and Reid Morton; and several great-grandchildren, including Triston and Mackenzie; and a sister, Florence (Bill) Wilhelm of South Bend. Five brothers, Henry, James, Norman, Robert and Delbert "Fred" Damp, preceded Herman in death.

Herman graduated from Central High School.

He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. Herman retired in 1985 from the Bendix Corp. He loved his Dachshund "Lucky" and the other three he previously had. He bowled at Chippewa Bowl for 40 years and also taught youth bowling. He most recently bowled on the Tuesday Golden Gang. Inga and Herman loved to camp and travel with the Good Sam Club and the ATC Travel Club. They camped for many years at Foxwood Hills in Middlebury, IN.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend. Contributions may be made to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or to Youth Bowlers, c/o Chippewa Bowl, 225 W. Chippewa, South Bend, IN 46614.
