FREDERICK CRIMMINS

Frederick H. Crimmins Dec. 29, 1922 - May 22, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Frederick Henry Crimmins, 92, passed away peacefully at home with family at 6:30 pm on Friday, May 22, 2015. He was born Dec. 29, 1922, in South Bend, the son of Jesse J. and Grace (Couch) Crimmins.

He graduated from South Bend Central High School.

He earned a Purple Heart serving in World War II, and after returning from service in the U.S. Army he graduated from Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska. Fred married Martha Agnes Liddell on Oct. 4, 1952; she preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 1990, shortly after their 38th anniversary.

He is survived by their seven children: Dianne (Robert) Humphrey, James (Mary Sue) Crimmins, Joseph Raymond (Kathleen) Crimmins and Amy Crimmins, all of South Bend, Beatrice (Joseph) Kaczmarek of Newport, KY, Daniel (Julie) Crimmins of Lafayette, IN,, and Samuel (Martin Wood) Crimmins of Indianapolis. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Heather (Michael) Budzinski, Melissa (Matthew) Riem, Matthew Humphrey, Samantha (Robert Pearson) Crimmins, Danielle (Christopher) Klimek, Joseph Jesse Crimmins, Michael (Rachel) Kaczmarek, Benjamin Kaczmarek, and Anna (Brent Salomon) Kaczmarek, Kimberly (Joseph) Janning, Kelsey Crimmins, Alysse Crimmins, Megan Crimmins and Nicholas Crimmins; and 11 great- grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and other relatives, including sister-in-law, Rita Crim-mins of Angola.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John P. Crimmins (Angola), and grandson, Sean Daniel Crimmins.

After retirement from Uniroyal he enjoyed golf, nature, playing games, and spending time with family. He was a loving and dedicated family man, admired for his commitment to his beliefs, and known for his sense of humor. His children and grandchildren remember fondly many pleasurable hikes with him at Izaak Walton and trips to the lake. He remained a fierce Scrabble competitor and a jokester to the end of his life.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 226 N. Hill St., South Bend. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed at 12 noon by a funeral Mass. Cremation will follow with burial later with his wife at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Center for Hospice Care (www.centerforhospice.org) or Logan Center (www.logancenter.org).
