SOUTH BEND - Brandt E. Shaul, 81, of South Bend, died Thursday morning in West Woods Nursing Home, Niles, Michigan. Brandt was former owner of Shaul Plumbing, South Bend, from 1950 to 1993. He was born April 19, 1926, in Hartford, Michigan, to Emmett M. and Martha F. (Vinning) Shaul.

He married Martha Louise Najar, who preceded him in death along with a son, Gary B. Shaul, and a brother, Milton. Surviving are two sons, David (Chris) Shaul and James (Kathy) Shaul, both of Niles; six grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Derek, Corey, Ryan and Audrey; one great-granddaughter, Grace; a brother, John of South Haven, MI; and a daughter-in-law, Helen Shaul of South Bend.

Brandt was a former 32 Degree Mason and World War II Navy veteran. He loved the Upper Peninsula, long drives in his convertible, and playing tennis, gambling, motorcycling, fishing and hunting.

Friends may call 2 to 6 p.m. today, April 20, in the HICKEY Funeral Homes, 17131 Cleveland Road, where the U.S. Navy funeral honor guard will provide a veteran flag presentation and taps at 6 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date.
