Albert N Hepler - Class Of 1945

 

ALBERT N. HEPLER III, 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 19, 2023. He was born June 28, 1927, in South Bend, Ind., to the late Albert N. Hepler Jr. and Dorothy J. (Malm -berg) Hepler. He graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1945 and then served his country in the U.S. Army, spending 10 months in Korea. He was honorably discharged in February 1947. He was an Indiana State Police Trooper from 1949 to 1953. He retired from NIPSCO after 31 years. During his tenure, in 1976, Mayor Robert Armstrong appointed Mr. Hepler to be Fort Wayne's Director of Public Safety. After his retirement from NIPSCO in 1987, Mr. Hepler moved to Nokomis, Fla. and worked for the Chicago White Sox at their spring training camp for 10 years. In 2013 he moved back to Fort Wayne, Ind. He served his community as a Blue Lodge Mason, Scottish Rite member and Shriner since 1962. He was active in Little League Baseball and Allen County Youth Hockey during his younger years. Surviving is his brother, William (Jennifer) Hepler of Athens, Ga.; and five children, Karen (Joel) Cluver of Latham, Ill., John (Pat) Turner of Flower Mound, Texas, Albert Hepler of Allen Town, Pa., Todd (Christine) Hepler of Fort Wayne, Ind., Judy Grozier of Nokomis, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his spouse, Dolores J. Hepler (Hanson); and his brother, Robert J. Hepler. "Our family would like to thank Lutheran Life Villages and Parkview Hospice for their compassionate care of Albert." Services and burial will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Parkview Hospice. FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.
