Lester J. Pierce

SOUTH BEND — Lester J. Pierce, 88, of Meridian Nursing Center-Cardinal, died at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the nursing home. Mr. Pierce retired as the owner of Pierce Coal Co. in 1970. He was born May 2, 1905, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.

On Oct. 19, 1929, in Chicago, he married Thelma Reber. She survives, with two sisters, Helen F. Keogan of South Bend and Grace P. Anthony of Miami: and a brother, Jack R. of South Bend.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge 294, Orak Shrine, Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend and Avalon Grotto.

There will be no services or visitation. Cremation will take place at Michiana Crematory. with burial in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park Granger. Welsheimer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to any charity.
