Mrs. Bernhardine C. (Neitzel) Timmons of Maricopa, Arizona, passed away March 15, 2015 at the Hospice of the Valley Dobson House in Chandler following a brief illness. She was born May 16, 1920 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Carrie (Fuchs) Neitzel and Bernhard H. Neitzel, Sr.

Bernhardine was a 1938 graduate of South Bend Central High School and attended Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana for one year. She married Richard E. Timmons on May 24, 1947 at Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Bend. Mrs. Timmons was employed as a clerk at the Indiana & Michigan Electric Company in South Bend where she worked for ten years.

Bernhardine is survived by her husband Richard E., a son John R. (Stephanie) of Maricopa, an adopted son, Anders Carlsson (Gerd) of Strömsholm, Sweden, Grandchildren John R. (Johanna) Carlsson of Norrtälje, Sweden and Jenny Sara Elisabeth (Jens) Nordfeldt of Stockholm, Sweden, Grandsons Eric (Kateri) Thomas and Jay Timmons, both of Chandler, 5 Great-Grandchildren, Kiana, Hunter, Ivan, Nina, and Jason, nephews Eric M. Neitzel of Long Beach, California, David B. Neitzel of Fischers, Indiana, Dr. R. Gordon Klockow of Rensselaer, Indiana, Roland A. Klockow of South Bend, Gary R. Klockow of Granger, Indiana, a niece, Mrs. Cynthia N. (Larry) Wenger of Platte City, Missouri, and a sister-in-law, Miss Marjorie F. Timmons of Chandler.

Bernhardine was confirmed at Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1934 where she was a life-long member. She served on the Church Council and sang in the choir for many years. Additionally she was also active in various women’s groups at the church.

Bernhardine and Richard spent 18 years in volunteer work with the Youth for Understanding Teenage Exchange Program placing over 300 high school foreign exchange students in homes throughout Northern Indiana. At home, Bernhardine enjoyed spending much of her time in the kitchen. She was known for her outstanding cooking and baking, and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. This continued when she and Richard retired to Arizona in 1992. Bernhardine and Richard regularly attended Maricopa Lutheran Church over the past 2½ years.

Funeral services will be held at Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery at 10940 E. Chandler Heights Road in Chandler, Arizona on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Donations may be made to the Maricopa Lutheran Church – 20987 N.
