Robert H. Addleman, M.D., Age 83, Brownsburg, IN died at home, with his family at his bedside on Wednesday morning, October 6, 2004. He was born January 28, 1921 to Dr. Claude and Mabel (Sourbeer) Addleman. He married Betty Jane Guy on November 11, 1952 in Indianapolis.

He spent his childhood in Economy and South Bend, Indiana, graduating from South Bend Central High School. Following high school, he attended Indiana University, Bloomington, graduating in 1942. He then enlisted in the Air Force and became a P-51 fighter pilot with the 359th Fighter Group of the Mighty 8th Air Force, based in Southern England. He flew over 60 combat missions over Nazi occupied Europe, including D-Day.

Following the war, he attended Indiana University School of Medicine, graduating with his M.D. degree in 1950. He then served his Internship at Indianapolis General Hospital from 1950-1951, where he met his wife. He then re-entered the Air Force as a Flight Surgeon based in Italy. In 1953, he left the Air Force as a Captain and returned to Indianapolis. He then served his Anesthesia Residency from 1953-55 at Indianapolis General Hospital. He became Board Certified in Anesthesiology in 1959. Following completion of his Residency, he served one year each as a Staff Anesthesiologist at Indianapolis General Hospital and at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Indiana, before finally settling at St.Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis in 1957.

He spent the next 37 years as an Anesthesiologist at St.Vincent, approximately 10 years as Department Chairman. He retired from St.Vincent Hospital and The Indiana Hand Center in 1994 at the age of 73. He was a member of the American Medical Association, Indiana State Medical Association, Indianapolis Medical Society, American Society of Anesthesiologists, and the International Anesthesia Research Society.

His hobbies included flying, wood working, metal working, fly fishing, bird watching, crossword puzzles and working on his homestead.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Ann Addleman, in October 1969. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jane (Guy) Addleman; daughters, Lesley Jean Addleman of Brownsburg, IN, Clare Ellen (Addleman) Snyder of Plain City, Ohio, and Cristina Jane Addleman of Brownsburg, IN; son, Robert Nicolas Addleman, M.D. of Carmel, IN and daughter-in law, Cindy Denise (Abel) Addleman, Carmel, IN; son-in-law, Gary Edward Snyder, M.D., Plain City, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Emma Morgan Snyder, Laura Katherine Snyder and Ellen Isabelle Snyder all of Plain City, Ohio, Nicholas Scott Addleman and Melanie Sue Addleman, both from Carmel, IN. Visitation will be at Traders Point Christian Church, 7860 Lafayette Road, Indianapolis, IN from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, October 9, 2004, with a Memorial Service to follow from 3 to 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Church, St.Vincent Hospice or the donor's favorite charity. Arrangements entrusted to Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg.
