GRANGER - Carl S. Kasa, 91, residing in Granger, passed away at 3:01 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2011, in his home at The Hearth at Juday Creek. He was born November 1, 1920, in South Bend, IN, the son of George and Rose (Foki) Kasa, and graduated from Central High School.

In October 1946 he was united in marriage to Genevieve "Jenny" Richardson, who preceded him in death in 1971. Then, on November 2, 1973, in South Bend, he married L. Elizabeth "Betty" Kasa, who also preceded him in death in 2010. He was also preceded in death by his four brothers, George, Louis, Frank and Joe Kasa.

During WW II, he served in the United States Army as a Supply Sergeant from 1942-1946. He worked for Westinghouse in Kansas City, KS, until 1963, then for Aerojet in Sacramento, CA, until 1971.

He relocated with his first wife, Jenny, back to the Chicago area where he retired from Clark Equipment in 1982. For his retirement years, Carl and Betty returned to their birthplace of South Bend. Carl was a loving, patient and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who will truly be missed.

He is survived by his son, Richard (Laurie) Kasa of Stateline, NV; his daughter, Marilynn Manning of Reedley, CA; a stepdaughter, Janice (Joe) Jarboe of Warsaw, IN; and a stepson, Kevin (Linda) Williams of Indianapolis. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Rachel (Anthony) Kasa-DaRosa, Naomi Kasa, Matthew Kasa, Clay (Jill) Manning, Kevin Manning, Melissa (Bob) Carrico, Brian (Cheryl) Pemberton, Geoff (Christine) Pemberton, Rachel (Rich) Brown, Seth Williams and Jack Williams; and five great-grandchildren, Brandon Manning, Olivia Genevieve DaRosa, Chad (Sara) Carrico, Ashley Carrico and Bennett Brown; as well as a great-grandchild, and a great-great-grandchild soon to be born. Carl was a member of Southlawn United Methodist Church.

Prior to WW II, Carl attended the University of Notre Dame from whence came his passion for the Fighting Irish. He also loved bowling, a sport he participated in up to age 89. He belonged to the Senior Fun Club Bowling League, Golden Gang League, American Bowling Congress, and the South Bend Central Alumni Association.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to the team from the Center for Hospice, and his caregivers, Amanda, Susan, Julie and Sonia, for taking such good care of him over the past year. He had great respect for all of you, and you truly made his last days very comfortable.

Services celebrating the life of Carl Kasa will be at 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 11th, at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy on behalf of Carl may be offered to The Center for Hospice Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
