MARY A. (FRANK) MIKULAK

1921 - Aug. 23, 2007
SOUTH BEND - Mary Alice Mikulak passed away in her home on Thursday, Aug. 23rd. She was born in Macomb, Illinois, to Harry and Alice (McGann) Frank. They moved to South Bend when Mary Alice was five. Everyone who knew and loved her called her "M.A." M.A. attended St. Joseph Grade School and Central High School.

She worked at Studebaker Aviation during World War II and at Studebaker Automotive after the war.

In 1947 she married Julius Mikulak and became very busy being an outstanding wife to Julius and an outstanding mother to her five sons, Christopher, Stephen, John, Philip and Peter, all of whom survive her. M.A. is also survived by two grandsons, Jeffery and Kevin.

In her golden years, M.A. was a volunteer at St. Joseph Medical Center for almost 20 years, where she dispensed good will and candy. She became known as the "candy lady." M.A. always had a completely open heart and was the embodiment of the second commandment. Someone once remarked, "Her smile will melt you."

We firmly believe M.A. is now in heaven where she joins her mother, Alice, and her sister, Patricia, and all her other relatives and friends who preceded her there to our Lord's loving care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Little Flower Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, with visitation today from 3 to 5 p.m. in the McGann Hay Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 (enter off Cherry Road). There will also be calling one hour prior to the service in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46635. For directions or to send condolences to the family, log on to www.mcgannhay.com.
