Funeral services were held last week in California for Dwight H. Koontz, 61, a South Bend native, and his wife, Mary, 62, both of Half Moon Bay, Calif., who were killed Aug. 14 in a two-car accident in Knights Landing, Calif. Officer Larry Ostergard of the California Highway Patrol said an-other auto was northbound on California State Road 113 when it failed to negotiate a curve and struck head-on a southbound car driven by Koontz. The other driver also was killed.

Koontz was a registered professional engineer.

The couple is survived by two daughters, Barbara and Janet, both of California; and five sons, David, Richard, Shawn, Charles and Timothy, all of California; 13 grandchildren; Mr. Koontz's mother, Mrs. Clarina Koontz of South Bend; his two brothers, Monroe Koontz of Lexington, Ky., and Robert Koontz of Muncie, Ind.; Mrs. Koontz is survived also by her mother, Mrs. Isles of Manhattan, Kan.; a sister and a brother, also of Manhattan, Kan.

Koontz was a 1937 graduate of South Bend Central High School and Kansas State University. Ile had formerly worked for the Studebaker Corp. lie was a World War II army veteran.

Services and burial for Mr. and Mrs. Koontz were Thursday in Citrus Heights. The Price Funeral Home, Citrus Heights, handled arrangements.
