Harold L. Jennings
May 20, 1908 — Feb. 27, 2003

Harold Lewis Jennings, 94, a lifetime resident of Clay Township and South Bend, Ind., passed away on Thursday, Feb. 27, in his residence.

He was born May 20, 1908 in the Roseland home of his parents, Arthur and Maude (Ziegler) Jennings. He graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1926 and the University of Notre Dame in 1930 with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting. On Feb. 15, 1938, he married Sybil Galbreath, who survives in Wingate, IN. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary one month ago.

Through the initial year of their marriage, during the Great Depression, they traveled the Midwest installing roadside King Edward Cigar signs. They also built their own home on Myrtle Street, where they continually resided. Later, he took over his fathers electrical contracting business, Jennings Electric Company, and remained it's sole proprietor for over 60 years. Harold was also a pianist In his early years for the Community Congregational Church and was a lifelong member of the Clay Township Lions Club. He especial-ly enjoyed world travel, western river rafting, and reading western novels. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Earl Jennings, and is survived by one sister, Ailene (Wilbur) Gibson of Montreal, Canada. Three sons survive, Eldon (Anna) L. Jennings of San Diego, Calif.; Richard (Gretchen) A. Jennings of New Carlisle, Ind.; and Douglas (Beverly) K. Jennings of Hudson, Ill. Additionally, there are eight grandchildren, Richard Jennings Jr., Julie Jennings, Amy Percifull, Marci (Martin) Jennings, Michelle (Greg) Statler, Nathan L. Jennings, Jennifer (Brian) Gullnello, and Laura (Joshua) Jennings-Mitchell. He is also survived by six great grandchildren.

Harold's family invites friends and family to celebrate his life In Welshelmer Funeral Home, on Cleveland Road, Saturday, March 1. Visitation is at 3:00 p.m., with a memorial service led by Rev. Paul Blend of the Community Congregational Church at 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Congregational Church, Starke Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation Unit (Knox, Ind.) or to the charity of your choice.
