Gloria Jean Gorrell, 78, of South Bend, Ind., died of natural causes at 4:30 a.m. Monday, March 28, In Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Gloria was born on Sept. 19, 1926, in South Bend, to the late Russell and Mabel (Crothers) Stellner. In April 1943 she married David H. Gorrell, who preceded her In death.

She Is survived by her three children, David M. (Kathy) Gorrell of Olathe, KS., Paula Holtman of Osceola, IN., and Rebecca (Wayne) Smith of Frankfort, KY.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sisters, Janice (Robert) Roden of South Bend and Mary Jo (Robert) Cebrat of Hollywood FL.

She retired after 30 years with the YMCA and spent the remainder of her life with her best friend and companion, Bob Nowicki. They shared many good times traveling and spending summers at their lake cottage. They both enjoyed visiting Michigan City's casino, where she loved to play the slot machines. She read anything she could get her hands on about World War I or the Civil War. She did crosswords and played poker with her friends. She loved anything that challenged her mind.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 1, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Welshelmer Family Funeral Home, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Services will be at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend.
