NELLIE (SMITH) MCMATH

McMath, Nellie Smith Born August 17, 1926 daughter of John Wesley and Nellie Mae Smith in South Bend, Indiana, passed away as she slept in the family home in Gary, Indiana on Sunday March 3, 2013.

Nell grew up on South Bend's East Side Georgiana Street and attended Perley Elementary School and Central Junior and Senior High School. She also received a bachelors degree in accounting from Howard University in 1948.

She was the owner of Nell's Jr. Boot Shop in Gary, Indiana and a full time realtor for many years until her health began to fail.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley and Nellie Mae Smith; husband, Dr. Samuel B. McMath; brother, Dewarren; sons, Stephen McMath and Samuel McMath.

Nellie is survived by son, Michael McMath of Gary, Indiana; two sisters, Dr. Lillian Smith Bell-Gaines of Elkhart, Indiana and Dr. Betty Smith (Harold) Williams of Los Angels, CA; two nieces and two nephews; other relatives and friends.

Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday March 12, 2013 at Saint Augustine's Church, 2425 West 19th Avenue in Gary, Indiana.
