Eleanor E. Houghton April 7, 1926 - June 14, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Eleanor Elizabeth Pecze Houghton, age 89, passed away at home on June 14, 2015. She was born in South Bend, Indiana in 1926, daughter of Andrew and Mary Rose Pecze and sister of Andrew Pecze.

She graduated from Central High School in South Bend, and worked as a young woman in the ticket office at Notre Dame University. She attended art school in Chicago and worked as a window display designer before marriage.

She married the love of her life, Ernest A. Houghton, Jr. in 1949; they spent 60 years together mostly in the Lansing area. Eleanor was the proud mother of nine children (2 boys, 7 girls), to whom she dedicated her energy and creativity. Known for her good sense of humor & a hearty laugh, she was a woman of timeless grace and beauty.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and brother, and granddaughter, Norah Grace O'Hare.

Eleanor is survived by her nine children, Jeanette Makries (James), Pamela DeVoe (Robert), Carol MacAllister (Dunwel), Ernest A. Houghton (Kathleen), Maureen Houghton (Thomas Kolhoff), Anne Marie Cosgrove (Michael), Patricia Jacquart (John), Mary O'Hare (Dennis), and Michael Houghton (Susan); 14 grandchildren, Matthew Hein, Joseph Hein (Kristina), Jeffrey Makries (Victoria), Arthur James Makries (Laurel), Christina DeVoe, Meghan DeVoe, Patrick MacAllister, Britney Cosgrove, Adam Cosgrove, Brandon Cosgrove, Nicole Jacquart, Liam O'Hare, Laura Houghton, and Audrey Houghton; and four great-grandchildren, Victoria Makries, Zayden Makries, Alaina Hein, and Jacob Hein.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at the Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Delta Chapel, 6020 W. Saginaw, Lansing, Michigan from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 pm, where a vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday morning, June 18, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Ledge with Rev. Fr. James Eisele as celebrant. Additional visitation will be from 6-8 pm, Thursday, June 18, at the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., South Bend, where a Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm. Graveside services will be held Friday, June 19, at 10:00 a.m. in Highland Cemetery, South Bend, Indiana. Condolences can be made at www.palmerbush.com or www.welsheimer.com.
