GRANGER - Joseph M. Czarnecki, 87, passed away October 11, 2013, after a brief illness. Born September 10, 1926, he was the son of Leo and Theresa Czarnecki.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and all of his siblings, Anthony, Edward, Louis, Anne Dobski, Dorothy Wesolowski Siwek, Leo, Joan and Theresa Andrzejewski.

On August 22, 1953, Joe married Jacquelin Ferrettie at St. Joseph Church in Mishawaka. They were blessed to be married for sixty years. Jackie survives along with six children, Gregory (Kathy) Czarnecki of Dayton, OH, Linda Czarnecki (Bryan Hartstein) of South Bend, Kenneth (Joy) Czarnecki of Granger, John Czarnecki of Lombard, IL, Kara Madaras Onderdonk (Ralph) of Granger and Steven Czarnecki of South Bend; twelve grandchildren, Aaron (Brittany) Czarnecki, Amberly (Craig) Berger, Shelly (Shane) Harbert, Scott Czarnecki, Kaila Czarnecki, Jessica Czarnecki, Christine Czarnecki, Halle Czarnecki, Daniel (Tiffany) Madaras, Erika Madaras, Andrew Madaras and Michael Madaras; and three great-grandchildren, Ava, Caden and Nathan. Joe is also survived by many nieces and nephews. J

oe was a loving, generous, kind man who was deeply loved by his family. He learned his work ethic as a young child during the Depression. He sold newspapers and collected scrap metal to help feed his family.

Upon graduation from Central High School in 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and proudly served his country for two years.

He began his own successful business in 1957, Princess Flower and Gift Shop in Mishawaka, retiring after 41 years. He was a member of St. Anthony Church and over the years he served on the parish council, as a Cub Scout leader, was an usher for 40 years, and recently he volunteered at St Vincent de Paul / St. Anthony Conference food bank. He was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. His hobbies and passions included golf, playing poker with friends, drawing and painting.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8 PM, with the Rosary prayed at 7:30 PM at McGann Hay Funeral Home, Granger Chapel (13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Road). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church (2114 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend) at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park (375 W Cleveland Road, Granger). Memorial contributions to St. Vincent De Paul / St. Anthony Conference, c/o St. Anthony Church (2120 E.
