Allegra Juliet Carpenter (Corporon)

Allegra Juliet Corporon

May 20, 1915 - Jun. 8, 2004

Allegra Juliet Corporon, 89, a resident of Sun City, AZ, for the last 25 years, passed on June 8, 2004, at Baptist Village in Youngtown, AZ, of Alzheimer's.

She was born in South Bend, IN, May 20, 1915, the daughter of Dr. Ira V. and Mabel C. Carpenter, and had two brothers, John and Devon, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her devoted sons, Douglas, Phoenix, AZ, John, Sun City, AZ, and grandson, Jay of New York.

She was married to Richard P. Corporon in 1936 and until his demise 36 years later. Her very early years were on a farm that is now part of the South Bend, IN, airport until the family relocated to South Bend proper where she graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1933. She was a resident of Goshen, IN, for 26 years, a member of the First Methodist Church, active in several community and charitable organizations, as well as working at the front desk of the Goshen News for several years.

After moving to the Phoenix, AZ, area, she worked at the Phoenix YMCA main office writing brochures, news letters and correspondence as assistant to the president. After retiring to Sun City, she had a home redecorating business and traveled to Europe and Asia. She enjoyed writing, reading and travel, and was ready to go anyplace at the drop of a hat. Her favorite phrase was "Lets Go!" She was always there for her family, friendly to everyone she came in contact with, and ready to help at any time. She had empathy for all; just a very decent, kindly human being with a positive attitude and a great sense of humor. She always conducted herself as a lady - with spirit, and fulfilled herself as a wife, mother, and woman. More cannot be asked; she will be sorely missed.

She is buried beside her husband at the Violet Cemetery, Goshen, IN.

A memorial service will be held in the future.
