GRANGER - Loretta L. Janowiak, 87, of Granger, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012 in Morningside Nursing & Memory Care Center. Loretta was born October 29, 1924 in South Bend to the late Frank and Josephine (Buczkowski) Kolanda. She was also preceded in death by a son, John Janowiak, granddaughter, Jennifer Janowiak, and sisters, Bernice Staszewski, Elizabeth Kolanda, Helen Kolanda, Francis Brown, and Marie White. On March 2, 1946, in South Bend, Loretta married Cashmer Janowiak, who passed away April 16, 2005.

Loretta is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (Matthew) Derrick of South Bend, Sandra (Robert) Hutchins of St. Charles, IL and Linda (Ron) Marshall of Winters, CA; sons, James (Mary Pat) Janowiak of San Antonio, TX, Timothy Janowiak of Granger, and Joseph (Pamela) Janowiak of Granger; eight grandchildren, Mark (Sharon Hochstetler) Grove, Jeff (Alisa) Grove, Amy (Colin) Winter, Matthew (Sara) Hutchins, Jeff (Meredith) Guyton, Jessica Janowiak, Cody Janowiak, and Kelsey Janowiak; nine great-grandchildren, and a sister, Irene Wesolek of South Bend.

Loretta was a graduate of South Bend Central High School.

She had worked at Kroger's as a cashier for twenty-five years, retiring in October of 1986. She was a founding member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she was active in several organizations.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Morningside Nursing & Memory Care, Southern Care Hospice, and Arborwood Assisted Living for all their wonderful care and support over the years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2012, in St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 29th, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, where a prayer vigil will be recited at 4:30 p.m., and one hour prior to the Mass on Monday at the church.
