Roland E. "Duke" Fleming Jr

Roland E. Fleming Jr. Services for Roland E. "Duke" Fleming Jr., 60, of Fort Wayne, formerly of South Bend, who died at 10:45 a.m. Monday in Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Weishelmer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkview Regional Oncology Center at Parkview Memorial Hospital or to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Fleming had been a motel operator in Columbus, OH, and Fort Wayne. Mr. Fleming was born Nov. 9, 1924, in Jackson, MI., and lived in Dayton, OH, and Fort Wayne. On Nov. 12, 1955, in Evanston, IL, he married Georgiana VanDuzer. She survives with a daughter, Vanette D. Fleming of Evanston; three sisters, Bettylou Miller of Elkhart, Gloria Gillette of Battle Creek, MI., and Barbara R. Fleming of Kalamazoo; two brothers, Howard W. of South Bend and Col. Paul A. with the U.S. Army in Zweibrucken, Germany; and his mother, Florence B. Fleming of Elkhart. 

Mr. Fleming was a World War II veteran, having served with the Sixth Armored Division under Gen. George Patton and during the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of South Bend and a trustee and member of the Fort Wayne Elks Lodge 155 and the South Bend Elks Lodge 235. Mr. Fleming was a life member of the American Contract Bridge League and past president of the Miami Valley Bridge Association. He at-tended Michigan State University.
