EMILY A. (REHM) LANDIS

Emily Ann Rehm Landis, 77, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, with her loving family by her side. She "fought the good fight" for several months as she battled cancer.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday at New World United Methodist Church, Arlington. Friends are invited to gather in the church fellowship hall afterward. Interment: At a later date in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Memorials: New World United Methodist Church, Clay United Methodist Church in South Bend, Ind., or a charity of choice.

Emily was born in Chicago, Ill., on May 31, 1930, to Carl and Ruth Rehm. She moved to South Bend, Ind., in 1933. She graduated from Central High School in South Bend in 1947 and attended Indiana University, where she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She graduated in 1951 with a degree in journalism.

On July 8, 1951, she married Thomas Shepler Landis of Peru, Ind. Together they had five children. In 1976 the family moved to Arlington, where she was an active member of New World United Methodist Church in the choir, United Methodist Women, Sunday school, vacation Bible school and giving many hours of volunteer work. She also was a Stephen Ministry leader. Emily worked in her church's Mothers Day Out program for many years and retired as director in 1994. Known as "Miss Em," she was loved by many people and touched many lives.

Emily was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard Carl Rehm.

Survivors: Her husband of 56 years, Tom Landis; sons, Lawrence Landis and wife, Rebecca, of Corvallis, Ore., and Jonathan Landis and wife, Dawn, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; daughters, Beverly Dick and husband, Stephen, of Corvallis, Ore., Barbara McWhirter and husband, Dan, of Arlington and Jennifer Ehlers and husband, Mike, of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Greg, Patrick, Ben, Zachary and Matthew Oldham, Carter and Anna McWhirter, Jared, Aiden and Ethan Landis, Tad and Katherine Ehlers; sister, Matilda Rehm of South Bend, Ind.; nephew, Eric Rehm of Seattle, Wash.; niece, Dawn Rehm of Washington, D.C.; and many other relatives in Texas, Indiana, Arizona, Michigan and Wisconsin.
