GRANGER - Robert D. Pendl, 81, of Sierra Madre, California (formerly of Granger, IN), died peacefully on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, surrounded by his loved ones. Bob was born on July 10, 1929, the son of the late Otto and Elizabeth Pendl of Granger.

He was a South Bend Central High School graduate.

After graduating from Rice University, he became a United States Naval Officer serving in the Korean Conflict. He joined IBM and retied after a distinguished career of 35 years.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking and traveling.

Bob was predeceased by his wife of 31 years, Beverly Dowd Pendl.

Survivors include his brother, William Pendl of Cincinnati, OH; daughters, Julie (Timothy) Klein of Spokane, WA, Jan (Michael) Mangano of Monrovia, CA, and Karen Sullivan of Sierra Madre, CA, his companion of many years. He is also survived y six grandchildren, Amanda and Anthony Klein, Jonathan, Christian, Brenda and Ryan Mangano; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at Mountain View Sunrise Chapel, Altadena, CA, on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
