Verna L. (Mulhaupt) McElheny

Verna L. (Mulhaupt) McElheny, 94, a lifelong resident of South Bend passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday September 29, 2023 at the Center for Hospice-Raclin House.

Verna was born on August 23, 1929 in South Bend to the late Verner and Violet (Knabenshue) Mulhaupt.

Verna met and married William McElheny on October 1, 1949, sharing 64 years of marriage before his passing in 2014.

Verna was a homemaker, caring for her two daughters; Sandra (Donald) Collins and Nancy Banghart.

She loved working in her yard and flower beds. William and Verna loved traveling the east coast, especially New England. Her dogs were her constant companions.

Verna is survived by her children, 3 grandchildren; Tracey Collins, Joseph Collins, and Jeremy (Angela) Monges, 9 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two grandchildren; Melissa Collins (2000) and Michael Collins (2020), and her siblings; Naomi, Marjorie, Genevieve, and Richard.

Funeral services have been held.

Memorial Contributions in Verna’s name may be made to the Center for Hospice, 501 Comfort Place Mishawaka.
