Hugh H. Maxwell

APRIL 7, 1929 – OCTOBER 11, 2015

Hugh H. Maxwell, 86, passed away October 11, 2015. Devoted husband of 60 years to Marva Maxwell; loving father of Kevin (Susie), Kim, Karen, Kathleen, and Kurt. Cherished grandfather of Shelly, Taylor, Irina, Alexey, Tyler, Sydney, Kristina, Kyle, and Kara; loving great-grandfather of Zachary; beloved son of the late Nick and Ruth Magnetta; dear brother of Ernie(Susan) Magnetta, Cathryn(Werner) Georgis and the late Nicholas (Linda) Magnetta; fond uncle and friend to many.

Hugh worked at the historic Colfax Theater in South Bend during his high school years and graduated from South Bend Central.

He later worked for Studebakers, also in South Bend. His wife Marva graduated from Elkhart High School and they met while dancing at Club Normandy in Mishawaka, IN. Hugh left for Washington DC to work as a patrolman and undercover officer until he decided to return to Indiana and marry Marva in 1956. They drove Hugh’s Lincoln Continental to honeymoon in Hollywood, Florida and later purchased their first home in South Bend where he worked for Weber’s Bread for 12 years.

Five children later, the family relocated to Lisle, IL in 1968 and he worked for Hobart until his retirement. Hugh was a long time Chicago Bears, Notre Dame and Lisle Lions fan. Hugh cherished family camping time together with his children that included many trips to Wisconsin and vacations to Florida. His grandchildren and great-grandchild meant everything to Hugh and he never missed an opportunity to attend their birthdays, school programs, sporting events, holiday events and recitals. He will be greatly missed.

Memorial Visitation on Saturday, October17, 2015 from 11-3pm, at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Ave., Lisle (On Rt. 53, ½ mile south of Ogden), where a Memorial Service will take place at 1pm.
