Valerie (King) Hood
1930-2012
Valerie King Hood, 82, formerly of Pensacola Florida, passed away in a Birmingham nursing home on September 30, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Hood, her parents, Fred and Maude King, her sister Rosemary Hickey, her sister Edith Gleason, and her brother Alfred King.
She was born in South Bend Indiana to Fred and Maude King on Valentine's Day in their home in 1930. She and her husband moved to Florida in the Fifties and proudly made Florida their home. Valerie and Ernie were both active members of the Episcopal Church and were most recently members of St Monica's Episcopal Church. They were both active in the Cursillo movement as well as longtime members of the Kairos prison ministry. She was also a longtime member of the Daughters of the King.
Her deep faith was an inspiration to friends and family as was her courage as she faced a long twenty-five year fight with Parkinson's.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Bolton (Arthur), her son, Jeffrey Hood (Terina), her grandchildren, Sarah (Brian), Sierra, Alec, Shane, Tyler, Courtney, and her great grandchildren, Jasmine and Broc.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Memorial Fund at St. Monica's Episcopal Church, 699 N. Hwy 95A,Cantonment Florida 32533. Visitation will be at the Faith Chapel North in Cantonment Florida on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The Funeral will be at St Monica's Episcopal Church on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. followed by burial at Pensacola Memorial Gardens. FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME NORTH, 1000 Hwy 29S, Cantonment, FL is in charge of arrangements.
