Marshal Glen Akin, 94, of Granger, Indiana passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023. He was born on November 15, 1928 in Elkhart, Indiana to the late Daniel Henry and Cecelia Odessa (Kring) Akin. On Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1948 he married Gertrude Miller who survives. Together they lived and flourished for seventy-four years. Marshal is also survived by one daughter, Kathleen Simpson of Mishawaka, Indiana, two sons, Daniel (Sue) Akin of Castle Rock, Colorado, David (Janice) Akin of South Bend, Indiana, seven grandchildren, Jeff (Bonnie) Akin of Ashburn, Virginia, Julie (John) Perry of Parker, Colorado, Chris (Corissa) Simpson of Granger, Indiana, Jennifer (Fradin Catano) Simpson of Mishawaka, Indiana, Adrianne (Dan) Rutledge of Stephens City, Virginia, Kyle Akin of South Bend, Indiana, Olivia (Joe) Pipp of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, 18 great grandchildren and one sister, Diane Rodgers of Bremen, Indiana. Marshal was also preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Dochow and one brother Duane Akin.

Glen graduated from Central High School in the class of 1946. He was in training to be an Aircraft Navigator because of WWII but never got to the military because the war ended shortly after graduation in June. Glen and Gert were long time residents of New Carlisle. They currently were residing at Story Point Retirement Community in Granger. Glen worked for Indiana and Michigan Power Company from 1953-1992 for a thirty-nine-year career. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church since 1953 and served as an usher for many years. Glen and Gert resided in Florida for twelve winters until a hurricane destroyed their trailer. He enjoyed sports, movies and reading until his death. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren more than life itself.

A visitation for Glen will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. South Bend, IN from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm. A rosary will be prayed at 3:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, 55756 Tulip Rd., New Carlisle, IN at 10:30 am. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 10:30 am in the church prior to the mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made in Glen’s honor to Catholic Charities, 1817 Miami St., South Bend, IN 46613 or St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church. Online condolences may be left at
