Charles W. Kile

Charles W. Kile, 92, died at 2:50 p.m. Thursday, May 18 in the skilled nursing center of Hamilton Communities, New Carlisle, Ind. Chuck was born Aug. 6, 1913, to Ray and Ruby (Leap) Kile in Rochester, IN. Three other siblings, Aletha, Foster and Stanley along with their parents preceded him in death. On June 8, 1935, in South Bend, he married Lois Hackler who died Aug. 1, 1986. He is survived by two sons, James R. Kile of South Bend and Bud (Sue) Kile of Galien, MI. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Shelly Kile of Galien and Brad (Kristy) Kile of Buchanan, MI; four great grandchildren, Taylor York, Skyler York, Aidan Kile and Rowan Kile. 

Chuck was a South Bend Central High School graduate. In his lifetime, Chuck worked for the Bendix Corporation, the City of South Bend Traffic Engineering Department, and served 20 years with the South Bend Police Department, retiring in 1964. He was an active member of the Moose Lodge #58, joining in 1949. Over the years, Chuck held office and served on numerous commit-tees. Through his service and dedication he achieved Pilgrim status, was named an honorary graduate of Mooseheart, and, on January 1, 2001, was named Moose Legionnaire of the year for South Bend Moose Lodge #58. 

Friends may call form 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 21 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 North William Street, where a Moose Lodge memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Private funeral serves will be held Monday, May 22 with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery.
