NILES - Martha Helen (Bourgon) Kozmer, 97, died Jan. 6, 2009, in The Arrington in Columbus, MS. She was a resident of Niles for 48 years before moving to Starkville and then Columbus, MS, in 1999. Mrs. Kozmer was born July 5, 1911, in Coteau Station, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Armand and Evelina (Marchand) Bourgon.

She attended elementary school in Coteau Station and White River, Ontario, Canada, before moving to South Bend, where she graduated from Central High School.

Following graduation from high school she studied nursing. She was an experienced dressmaker by profession, and enjoyed playing bridge and traveling to visit with friends and family.

On November 22, 1941, in South Bend, she married John Louis Kozmer, who preceded her in death on July 28, 1982.

Martha is survived by daughters, Jeanne (John) Marszalek of Starkville, MS, and Marilyn Sommers of Crofton, MD; grandchildren, John Marszalek, Chris (Shannon) Marszalek, Jamie (Shannon) Marszalek, Michael (Tina) Sommers and David (Karil) Sommer; great-grandchildren, Will and Emily Marszalek, Ella Marszalek, Madeline and Alex Sommers, and Christopher Sommers.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

A memorial Mass will be held for Martha H. Kozmer on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with The Rev. Thomas King, C.S.C., of Saint Mark Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be private at Calvary Cemetery, Niles. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the Mass. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Kozmer may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
