Shirley J. McMahon, of South Bend, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Signature Healthcare in Bremen at the age of 95. She was born September 17, 1927, in South Bend to Albin and Mary Kathryn (Holly) Kolupa, who both preceded her in death.

Shirley was united in marriage to Wayne R. McMahon, who preceded her in death on July 11, 1986.

She enjoyed playing cards for over 50 years in a card club with her high school friends. Shirley and Wayne were avid Notre Dame football fans and were season ticket holders for many years and enjoyed going to games and cheering on the Irish.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Shirley’s niece, Patricia McClanahan, for the wonderful care she gave her in her last years. They would also like to thank Signature Healthcare for their special treatment of their mother during her time there.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Pamela A. (William) Ritter of Loves Park, Illinois and Vicki K. (John) Staniszewski of South Bend; her son, Gary L. McMahon of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; her 12 grandchildren, Daniel Ritter, Christopher (Sarah) Ritter, Michael (Holly) Ritter, Jessica (Curtis) Mays, John (Amanda) Staniszewski, Erin (Thomas) Morretti, Elliott and Sierra McMahon, Rebecca and Kathryn Holly McLean and Nathan and Andrew Hatfield; her numerous great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Gail McMahon; her sisters, Helen Kimble, Lorraine Cudney and Dorothy Case.

Funeral Services for Shirley will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2023 at Palmer Funeral Homes – River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, IN 46615. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to services.
