Robert W. "Bob" Jonas

87, died on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 in Community North Hospital . Bob was born on May 14, 1927 in Elkhart to Russell S. Jonas and Lois (Cook) Jonas, both of whom preceded him in death.

Bob was a graduate of South Bend Central High School, enlisting in the U.S. Navy following graduation. After serving his country, he graduated from Indiana University in 1952 and was a life member of the IU Alumni Association. He worked at Eli Lilly as an internal auditor from 1952 until retirement in 1989. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Virginia (Hay) Jonas; a sister, Lois Dahlquist; four children: Mary Anne (Kevin) McCarty, R. William (Kathy) Jonas, Jr., Thomas Bryan (Heather) Jonas, and Shirley Jean (Bruce) Rueter, and two stepsons, Mark Hedges and Brian (Tori) Hedges. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Preceding him in death was Bob's former wife, Peggy (Black) Jonas, the mother of his children.

He was a 50-year member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, where he served as Trustee and Elder. Bob and Ginny traveled extensively, having made special trips to the Panama Canal, Hawaii and four presidential libraries. Bob also enjoyed IU sports and military history.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 1660 E. Kessler Boulevard East Drive, Indianapolis. A memorial service will follow visitation. Private burial will take place later at Santa Claus Campground Cemetery, located in Santa Claus, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the church.
