WILLA VERA (BROOKS) HUNT

Willa V. Hunt June 9, 1927 - Sept. 9, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Mrs. Willa Vera Hunt, 87, of South Bend, Indiana departed this life on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 in her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 9, 1927 to the union of Gilbert and Alma (Esters) Brooks.

Willa was educated in South Bend Schools, graduating from Central High School. She earned a B.S. degree in Nursing from Indiana University and went on to retire from St. Joseph Hospital after 40 years of service as a Nurse.

She united in holy matrimony to Lacy Hunt Jr. on October 28, 1989. Willa joined Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church as a child and was a lifelong member. After ushering for many years, she organized The Nurses Guild at Greater St. John in 1976. Her community activities included The Modernistics, The Black Nurses Association, and Women In Touch. Survivors include her loving husband, Lacy Hunt Jr., stepchildren, step-grandchildren, brothers: Murral Brooks, of Marino, California and Bobby (Sandy) Brooks of Youngstown, Ohio; sisters: Esther (Edward Kinslow) Stuckey of Culver, Indiana and Joan (James) Wheeler of South Bend, Indiana; and brothers-in-law: Andrew Hunt of Springfield, Illinois, Harold Hunt, L. T. (Deborah) Hunt and Robert (Loretta) Hunt, all of South Bend, Indiana; she also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins behind to cherish her memory.

Family members that preceded her in death were her parents, Alma and Gilbert Brooks; and her twin brother, Gilbert Brooks.

Services for Willa Hunt will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 101 N. Adams Street, South Bend. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and funeral service at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Sign her guestbook at www.clarkoneal.com.
