Phyllis E. Davis July 17, 1927 - Jan. 19, 2015 EDWARDSBURG - Phyllis Elaine Davis, 87 years old, of Edwards-burg, passed to her rest on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at her home after an illness. She was born July 17, 1927, in South Bend, the daughter of Forest Doyle and Blanche Dorthea (Colip) Atkins.

Phyllis graduated from South Bend Central High School and furthered her education at Buena Vista Southern Seminary at Buena Vista, VA, where she graduated with an Arts Degree.

She was married August 24, 1947, in South Bend, to William E. Davis, and he survives with their children: Dianne Cocot of Elkhart, William E. (Maryann) Davis II of Granger and Becky (Dennis) Harness of Edwardsburg. There are seven loving grandchildren: Scott (Denielle) Harness, Justin (Kelly) Harness, Anne (Kent) Campbell, Will Davis, Dawn (Scott) Nord-man, Rob (Andrea) Harness and Don (Toni) Stephic. There are four great-grandchildren: Trey Harness, Allicia Harness, Destany Harness and Nikki Stephic; and a special great-great-granddaughter, Madison Stephic. Also surviving is a brother, Forest 'Sonny' (Gail) Atkins of Cincinnati, OH.

Phyllis and her husband lived in the South Bend, River Park area, then purchased a working farm in Edwardsburg, raising many animals. Phyllis had a love for Shetland Ponies. Phyllis taught Sunday School at Epworth Memorial Church in South Bend. After moving to Edwardsburg she continued to teach at the Methodist Church in Edwards-burg. Phyllis also worked at the South Bend Tribune in Data Processing for several years.

Phyllis and her husband purchased and owned the Pleasant Lake Resort in Edwards-burg from 1969 - 1978.

She was a member of the Edwardsburg Order of Eastern Star Chapter 476, being a past Worthy Matron, served as a president of Cass County Association and a member of the Emeritus Club. Phyllis was a member of Hope United Methodist Church in Edwardsburg.

Family and friends may gather on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Hope United Methodist Church, 69941 Elkhart Rd., Edwardsburg. There will be an Eastern Star Candle Light Memorial Service at the church starting at 7:30 PM Friday, by the Edwardsburg Chapter 476. The Service of Remembrance will be Saturday, January 24, 2015, at 11:00 am at the church, where all may gather for one hour before the service. Officiating will be Rev. Jeff Reese, pastor of the church. Interment will follow at the Edwardsburg Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hope United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 624, Edwardsburg, MI 49112-0624; or to Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, MI 49085. Arrangements are by the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwards-burg, MI.
