Virgie Lee Tender Anderson

(October 27, 1922 - December 24, 2011)

Mrs. Virgie Lee Anderson, born on October 27, 1922, in South Bend, Indiana to the late, Robert and Viola Tender, departed this life on December 24, 2011, after an extended illness. She was 89 years old.

Virgie Lee confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and became a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully for many years. She later transferred to Faith Baptist Church and was active there until her death.

Virgie Lee, a graduate of Central High School, received a certificate of theological studies from the Moody Bible Institute and sponsored group trips to-the Holy Land-Israel.

She retired from the St. Joe County clerk's office after 20 years of service and worked for the South Bend Credit Union, as well as the South Bend Airport.

Virgie Lee Anderson, an active member of the Democratic Party, worked the election polls in District 1 (Precinct 1) as a committee member for many years. She volunteered for Hospice for 10 years also.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Frank Anderson, II, whom she married on September 11, 1951; her daughter, Sharon McCullum Copeland, (Waymond); John McCullum (Arlene); and Frank Anderson, III, (Abigail). She leaves behind nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, special cousin Len Williams, the Williams family; and a host of relatives and friends.

Virgie Lee Anderson was preceded in death by a daughter, Margo McCullum; sisters, Margaret Ruth Williams and Helen Francis Pope; and a brother, Carl Reeves.

The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Barber and staff at the South Bend Clinic, Hospice of Harbor Lights, and Pastor Perkins for all their service and support in the family's time of need.

The viewing services for Virgie Lee Anderson will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home Inc., 2702 Lincoln-Way West.
Graveside services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2011, in Highland Cemetery
