SOUTH BEND - Mary Ann Keszei passed away in her home on Thursday, December 26, 2013, at the age of 90. Mary Ann lost her loving husband of 61 years, Emery, on November 17, 2013. She is survived by her children, Judith A. (Thomas) Callahan of Granger and Patrick J. Keszei of South Bend; and her grandchildren, Blake C. Callahan of Jacksonville, FL, and Bradford P. Callahan of Ft. Myers, FL. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Catherine. Mary Ann was born on June 20, 1923, to the late Joseph and Eva Kuminecz. She was an only child. She was born in Hungary and immigrated to the United States with her parents in 1923.

She graduated from South Bend Central High School and attended Indiana University.

She was employed at Studebaker Corporation for 10 years as an Executive Secretary. On October 18, 1952, she married Emery Keszei. Both Emery and Mary Ann spoke fluent Hungarian. They were lifelong residents of South Bend and enjoyed many winters in Florida after Emery's retirement. Mary Ann was an active parishioner of Saint Jude's Catholic Church and a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality. She was also a member of School Men's Wives Club and TOPS. She was an avid golfer, being a member in golf leagues at both Erskine and Elbel parks. She scored a hole-in-one on the sixth green at Erskine on June 25, 1989, at the age of 66. Mary Ann was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who also cared for her mother in her later years. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking the most delicious Hungarian dishes for her family and friends. She also enjoyed playing bridge, reading and sewing.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Jude's Catholic Church, South Bend, at 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 14, 2014. There will be a visitation in the church for one hour prior to the Mass from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, where friends and family may gather.
