AUDREY A. (NELSON) CLARK

SOUTH BEND - Audrey A. Clark, 89, of Windingwood Drive in South Bend, IN, died at 12:20 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011, in Hospice House in Elkhart, IN, following a brief illness. Mrs. Clark was born on January 30, 1922, in Mishawaka, IN, to Wilbur Davis and Harriet Beldine (Ritter) Nelson.

She graduated from Central High School in South Bend with the "Class of 1940."

She was a lifetime Michiana resident. Audrey attended Southwestern Michigan College from 1978-88, focusing on art classes. She was awarded an Honorable Mention for her acrylic painting entitled "Swamp Flower." She was a freelance artist and co-owner of Riverfront Gallery. She was a member of the Niles Lady Elks and Niles Art Association. She was a past president of the Niles PTA at Cherry Street School.

On January 19, 1947, in Sturgis, MI, she married Lee E. Clark Sr., who preceded her in death on November 11, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew Clark, who died in February 1989.

Surviving family includes a son, Lee E. (Maureen) Clark Jr. of Georgetown, TX; daughter, Kristina L. Pendley of South Bend, IN; and grandchildren, Sara (Joseph) Gillespie of Marietta, GA, Patrick Clark of Berkeley, CA, Molly Clark of Ann Arbor, MI, and Erin and Catherine Clark, both of Georgetown.

Funeral services for Audrey A. Clark will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Halbrítter Funeral Home in Niles, with Rev. Carl W. Bassett of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Niles officiating. Interment will be at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles. The family will receive relatives and friends beginning one hour prior to services in the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Audrey may be made to the Saint Joseph County Humane Society in Mishawaka.
