Bob Edward Makielski

Robert E. Makielski

March 18, 1921 - Nov. 25, 2013
EDWARDSBURG - Robert E. "Bob" Makielski passed away unexpectedly the morning of Monday, November 25, 2013. He was a man in excellent health for 88 of his 92 years. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing. Bob resided in South Bend, IN, for 57 of his 92 years, and lived in Edwardsburg, MI, his last 35 years.

He was the proud husband of Betty J. (Conrad) Makielski, married for 71 years, and the proud father of three sons, Dennis (Patti), Vero Beach, FL, Bill (Joanie), Bristol, IN, and Niel (Myrna), South Bend, IN. His pride flourished with the birth of his grandchildren: Dana (Rob) Withers, Plano, TX, Erin (Tim) Donnelly, Alexandria, VA, Nicholas (Melissa) Makielski, South Bend, Rachel Makielski, Fort Wayne, IN; and his great-grandchildren: Marek Makielski, Elyse and Maeve Donnelly, and Lucy and Max Withers.

Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather instilling the finest of life's principles in his sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and would have continued that tradition with his great-grandchildren had God given him the opportunity. Bob sought to live to 103 years of age; a worthy goal indeed. A higher calling shortened his lifelong dream and we pray for good reason. He was a sheet metal worker for 38 years principally at Troeger's Sheet Metal & served as President of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association, Local #20, for approximately 13 years.

Visitation will be at the McGann Hay Funerals | Cremations | Gatherings, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR23, enter off Cherry Rd., Granger, IN, on Friday, November 29, 2013, between 4 & 8 pm and one hour prior to the service from 9-10 am on Saturday, November 30, 2013, with Rev.
