HELEN A. (LAGOS) PINE

Oct. 8, 1921 - June 14, 2009
SOUTH BEND - Helen Ann Pine, 87, passed away at home on Sunday, June 14th, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Oct. 8th 1921, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Catherine and Thomas Lagos. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lu Kyriopoulos of Salt Lake City, Utah.

On August 16th, 1947, she married Arthur E. Pine, who survives with daughter, Pamela E. (Jack Jr.) Richey, South Bend, Indiana, and son, Timothy A. Pine of Salt Lake City, Utah. She also leaves to cherish her memory two loving granddaughters, Erica E. (Ron) Pendergrass and Melissa Ann Richey. A precious great-grandson, Zachary Apollo Pendergrass, also survives.

Helen graduated from Central High School in January 1940 where she was an honor roll student throughout her high school years. She worked as a journalist and private secretary to the owner/editor of a weekly local newspaper, now defunct. She also was employed in the Registrar's Office, Golden Dome Building, and the Rare Book Room of the Memorial Library of the University of Notre Dame for a number of years. Helen enjoyed cooking, gardening, fashion, and traveling with her husband. Helen will be remembered for her unconditional love and devotion to her family. Her Greek heritage was a source of pride and inspired family traditions that we are honored to continue. She was a longtime member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009, in Christ the King Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; to Christ the King Church, 52473 S.R. #933 North, South Bend, IN 46637; or to Saint Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, 52455 N. Ironwood Road, South Bend, IN 46635.
