SOUTH BEND - Steve J. Horvath, 86, died Sunday, Nov. 4, in his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Horvath worked at Studebaker's for 23 years and retired from Bethlehem Steel after 21 years of service. He was born on May 10, 1921, in Patarova, Yugoslavia, but was a lifetime resident of South Bend.

On December 7, 1941, in South Bend, IN, he married Martha A. VanDeWalle. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Martha A. Horvath; two daughters, Sharon Peterson of South Bend and Pattie (John) Susil of Elkhart; two sons, Michael (Sandi) Horvath of Granger and Steve (Barb) Horvath of North Liberty; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Louis Horvath of South Bend. His sister, Theresa Jasiewicz, preceded him in death.

Mr. Horvath served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He was an avid bowler and golfer. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed but not forgotten.

Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Thursday in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Ed Erskin, pastor of Northway Church of Christ, will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Thursday in the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Steve J. Horvath may be made to Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
